In Unix (linux), How Do I Find Which Process Is Making Lots Of I/o ?

I have a server where many people run different programs. Currently the CPU is almost idle, but the machine is doing lots of I/O (as reported by vmstat), and anything that needs I/O (disk) runs terribly slow.
Is there any easy way to find out for sure which process is doing the I/O ?

Which Unix Commands Should I Type To Find The Os Version And Machine Spec?

uname -a will give OS version and some clue as to hardware. Getting the machine spec depends on what flavour of UNIX you are using. For Solaris it is /usr/platform/`uname -m`/sbin/prtdiag -v. Not sure about HP-UX or AIX though. (Sometimes you can get bits and pieces from the dmesg command)

Which Is Easier To Manage From An It User Standpoint (windows Xp Or Unix)??

This greatly depends on your in house staff. Where I work, we find managing UNIX/Linux systems much easier than MS Windows but that is because we have a larger number of UNIX system administrators. If your staff is mostly MS Windows administrators, good luck on getting them to even touch non-MS systems.
